Culture, language, institutions, technology, ecology, myth — these forces are not outside us. They move through us. They shape what feels possible, what feels real, who feels worthy of care. Most of the time they operate below the threshold of conscious attention.
Participation is not something we choose to do or not do. It is what we are already doing. The question is whether we do it consciously.
Conscious participation doesn't mean controlling the forces. It means developing the capacity to see them clearly enough to move within them rather than be moved by them — to tend the threads that pass through your hands rather than be woven by them without knowing it.
